Description/Duties :
Bates College invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean for Multicultural Enrollment and Associate Dean for Student Transition, a multi-office appointment shared between Admissions and the Dean of Students Offices. The Associate Dean will spend one year assisting with the recruitment, selection and enrollment of a highly talented and diverse undergraduate students population; s/he will then spend one year assisting entering students from under-represented groups (first-generation-to college, students of color) make a successful academic and social transition to Bates. In the first year, the position will involve the full range of admissions work with responsibilities including: interviewing, traveling, reading applications, and managing some administrative responsibilities and geographic territories. The following year, the position will include the full range of student affairs responsibilities including academic advising, personal counseling, communication with faculty, staff, and family members concerning student needs and issues, as well as other administrative duties. In addition to an annual rotation between the Offices of Admissions and Dean of Students, the Associate Dean will also work closely with Student Financial Services, Multicultural Affairs, Communications and Media Relations, and Alumni and Parent Programs.

The position requires a masterís degree, or 4-6 years experience in admissions and/or student affairs at the post-secondary level. A valid driverís license is required. Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

The successful candidates must have a firm understanding of the student experience at a residential, small liberal arts college, and must have direct experience working with students from under-represented groups. Strong organizational and administrative aptitude, excellent counseling/interpersonal skills, high energy, imaginative leadership, strong work ethic, exemplary written and oral communication abilities, and proficient computing skills required.
