Sandy Spring Friends School is a coeducational, college-preparatory day and boarding school for students in grades PK-12. The School provides students a challenging liberal arts education in an atmosphere grounded in Quaker values, where all students and faculty are valued and supported, regardless of gender, age, race, religion, ethnic origin, or sexual orientation. Located approximately 35 minutes northwest of Washington, D.C. in historic Sandy Spring, Maryland, students and faculty are attracted to the School because of its 140-acre bucolic campus, strong sense of community, and excellent academic reputation. Sandy Spring has approximately 157 pre-primary through 5th grade students in the Lower School and 570 students in all grades. Head of Lower School

Sandy Spring Friends School seeks an experienced school administrator with a background in early childhood and elementary education to lead a dynamic lower school faculty for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Responsibilities include: curriculum development; supervision, support and evaluation of faculty and staff; discernment of lower school student needs and learning styles and demonstrated ability to support faculty in meeting these in a knowledgeable and effective manner; communication and development of partnerships with parents; preservation of a welcoming and nurturing environment for all. This position requires a demonstrated commitment to diversity, willingness to work collaboratively, and excitement about the use of technology in the curriculum.

The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written and oral communication skills. Prior experience in a Quaker school or a strong appreciation of Quaker process is important.
