The One World Young Leaders Program provides young leaders with an

opportunity to participate in an international service project. Participants in the One World Young Leaders Program spend several weeks during the summer working on an international human rights or development project in either a developing country or working on an international human rights or development project in a developed country on issues facing disadvantaged communities.

The program is divided into two phases: (i) one week in-country training and (ii) six week service projects.

One World Group Leaders

The One World Group Leaders will be in charge of running One World country programs. Group leaders will be the primary point of contact for One World headquarters staff during the duration of the country programs. Group leaders must be at least 26 years of age. The role and responsibilities of group leaders include:

• Providing weekly status updates to staff at One World headquarters.
• Facilitating logistics once One World participants arrive to host countries.
• Ensuring that One World country programs run smoothly.
• Effectively handling critical issues and situations on the ground as they arise.
• Liaising with local NGO partners and other stakeholders to ensure country programs are mutually beneficial to local NGO partners and One World participants.
• Directly participating in the One World country program through placement with a partner NGO.

One World will provide half of the program fee for those selected as Group Leaders.

Eligibility Requirements for Group Leaders

• At least 26 years of age as of January 1, 2007.
• U.S. citizen, permanent resident of the U.S., or current student at a U.S. university or college.
• Demonstrated interest in issues related to people of color, international human rights, social justice and community development. Those with an interest in a career in international development and human rights will be highly considered.
• Demonstrated leadership ability, including the ability to face change and challenges in a mature manner.
• Demonstrated experience living in and traveling to developing countries.

Eligibility Requirements for Young Leaders

• Age 18-35
• U.S. citizen, permanent resident of the U.S., or current student at a U.S. university or college.
• Interest in issues related to people of color, international human rights, social justice and community development. Those with an interest in a career in international development and human rights will be highly considered.
• The ability to face change and challenges in a mature manner.
• Demonstrated interest in actively participating in all of the activities of the program, a strong desire to learn and serve, and a desire to share the experience with others upon return to the U.S.
• Ability to raise the necessary funds to cover the program fee and other costs associated with participation in the program. The One World participation fee is $3000 per participant. This covers roundtrip transportation from New York to the program country, housing, medical evacuation insurance and training sessions. (If you do not have all of the program fees at the time of applying, don’t be discouraged. One World staff will work with participants individually to develop a fundraising strategy.)
