MentorNet is an nonprofit e-mentoring network that addresses the
retention and success of those in engineering, science and mathematics,
particularly but not exclusively women and other underrepresented groups.
The MentorNet mission is:
- To further the progress of women and others underrepresented in
scientific and technical fields through the use of a dynamic,
technology-supported mentoring network.
- To advance individuals and society, and enhance engineering and
related sciences, by promoting a diversified, expanded and talented
global workforce.
MentorNet's One-on-One Mentoring Program pairs community college,
undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs and untenured faculty from
many of the world's top colleges and universities as protégés with
professionals as mentors from industry and academ for one-on-one,
email-based mentoring (e-mentoring) relationships. In addition, the
MentorNet Community provides opportunities to connect with others from
around the world who are interested in diversifying engineering and
science. The program has proven effective by providing "real world"
information, encouragement, advice, and access to networks that are
otherwise often unavailable to women and people of color in the
male-dominated fields of engineering and science.
MentorNet also offers
- The MentorNet E-Forum: web-based discussion groups for anyone
interested in topics such as Work/Life Balance, Job Searching, and
Graduate School.
- Resources for and about mentoring, diversity, and careers in engineering and science.
- A Resume Database for students seeking jobs or internships.
MentorNet is backed by an extensive network of some of some of the
world's largest companies, top colleges and universities, and
professional societies, MentorNet pairs protégés and mentors from all 50
U.S. states and 55 countries on 6 continents.
